P&G, the company behind brands like Ariel, Pampers and Pantene, is proudly supporting SASCOC by announcing a program that will help celebrate and honour Moms of London 2012 Olympians, with a very special ‘Thank You Mom’ gift.
Despite a lifetime of dedication to help their child get there, many Moms of Olympians will never get to see their child compete on the world’s greatest sporting stage. As part of their worldwide Olympic Games partnership, P&G in South Africa is supporting athletes such as Cameron van der Burgh, Khotso Mokoena, Burry Stander, Caster Semenya, Noko Matlou and Amanda Dlamini as well as their Mamas by bringing them closer to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Standa Vecera, Vice President of P&G South and East Africa said: “When we see an amazing athlete, we also see an even more amazing Mom.
“To us, the Moms who drive endless miles to practice, bandage scraped knees, cheer themselves hoarse and give their kids the unconditional emotional support that turns them into champions are the real inspiration. That’s why we’re using our voice at the Olympic Games to say, ‘Thank You Mom!’”
Dorcas Semenya added: “Finding out that Caster qualified for the London 2012 Olympic Games is one of the most precious moments of my entire life. Since she was first able to walk, I have tried to support her – and never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that this day would come! The Olympics is the peak of her career. Just knowing I can be there for her is the most overwhelming and incredible gift I could have wished for.”
For the first time in Olympic history, P&G will be serving the Moms of the world’s Olympians and their families in London at their very own ‘home from home’ in London.
The P&G Family Home will be a haven in London exclusively for athletes’ Moms and families to relax and be together, and avail of complimentary meals, viewing lounges, Internet access and home-away-from-home services from P&G brands.
Vecera continues, “We also see the P&G Family Home as a way to give the athletes a little extra peace of mind. While getting to The Olympics is the pinnacle of achievement for an athlete and their family, the truth is, they actually don’t have much time to spend together there. So if we can give the athletes one less thing to worry about, and let them concentrate on the job they came there to do, we’re happy to do that.”
Vecera concluded: “We want to be the best partner the Olympic Movement has ever had, in honour of moms everywhere. As Proud Sponsors of Moms, P&G want to celebrate and thank all Moms throughout the Olympic Games and beyond”.
