Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced on Monday that Lerato Malekutu has been seconded to the Proteas’ team management from the beginning of September as Media Officer.
She takes the place of Michael Owen-Smith who is standing down at his own request but will remain a non-travelling Media Officer in CSA’s Communications’ Department.
Malekutu’s core duty will be to manage the various Proteas’ squads’ interaction with the Media both while on tour and when they are home-based.
“Lerato first joined CSA’s Communications Department through the internship programme before becoming a full-time employee and for the last couple of years has displayed a passion both for her job and for the game,” commented CSA CEO Gerald Majola.
“Evidence of her passion for cricket is illustrated by the fact that she is currently completing a Level 2 coaching course.
“She has been responsible for amateur cricket communications and that has included the national women’s team as well as the under-19 squad. It is now a logical progression for Lerato to move on to the professional level.”
National team manager Dr. Mohammed Moosajee commented: “We welcome Lerato to the management team as we prepare for what is going to be a very exciting and busy season leading up to the ICC World Cup.”
Lerato Malekutu commented: “I am passionate about my cricket and this opportunity poses an exciting new challenge for me. I am really looking forward to working with the Proteas.”
Malekutu will take on her new responsibilities from September 1.
