The race is on for the four semi-final positions in the A-section as the women’s inter-provincial series reaches its final round this weekend.
Six out of the 10 teams in the A-section can realistically still make the semi-finals. In Group 1, the Blue Bulls, Eastern Province and Western Province lead the charge, while SWD, KwaZulu-Natal and Free State are still in with a shout in Group 2.
In the final round of fixtures, EP and KZN have a bye, having already completed their matches, while WP host the Blue Bulls and SWD play at home against Free State, making for two very interesting matches.
Judging by log position, SWD and the Blue Bulls must be considered as favourites, as they are the only two unbeaten teams left in the competition and top the log with a full house of 15 points.
EP and KZN also have 15 points and will be watching the last weekend with interest to see if they will qualify. WP and Free State have 10 points each.
The other four teams in the A-section are Border, who have not performed to their full potential considering the large pool of players available to them, the Golden Lions, Boland and the Griffons.
The B-section is made up of the Valke, who top the log on 10 points, the Pumas (5), Leopards (5) and Griquas (0).
The semi-finals will be played on 3 September and the final a week later, on 10 September.
