The race is on for South Africa’s aquatic stars as the 2019 SA National Swimming Championships heads for the coastal city of Durban, with the action taking place at the Kings Park Aquatics Centre from 8th to 12th April.
This year’s event also doubles as the official selection trials for the 18th FINA World Championships which will be held in Gwangju, Korea from 21st to 28th July 2019.
Rebecca Meder, who swam four Qualification times for the FINA Junior World Championships at the recent SA National Junior Age Group Swimming Championships, will be looking forward to swimming at senior level when she races in the 100 and 200m freestyle, the 200 and 400m individual medley and the 100m breaststroke.
Having started the year with four gold medals at the SA Grand Prix Invitational Meet in Stellenbosch, Erin Gallagher will once again be looking for fast times in the 50 and 100m freestyle as well as the 50 and 100m butterfly, while Tatjana Schoenmaker will take on her favourite breaststroke events.
In the multi-disability category, there will be plenty of action from the likes of Paralympian Alani Ferreira, who will feature in the 100m breaststroke, the 100m freestyle, the 100m butterfly and the 200m individual medley.
The SA National Aquatic Championships begin on Monday, 8th April and conclude on Friday, 12th April 2019 with the heats starting at 09h30 while the finals will begin at 18h00 daily.
The staging of this event has been made possible through the support provided by Swimming SA partners, Sport and Recreation South Africa, SASCOC, National Lotteries Commission, Arena and Rand Water.
