gsport Awards Judges Revealed

It’s been exciting watching gsport’s readers voting for your favourite Leading Ladies since the beginning of June but, now that Internet voting is officially closed, its time for our esteemed four-woman judging panel to take over.

We’re delighted to announce that the panel is made up of businesswoman and sports administrator, Ntambi Ravele, who will judge the gSTAR category, while top cricket writer, Jane Bramley, is the judge in the Woman in Media category.

Sunday World’s Senior Assistant Editor, and Columnist, Kuli Roberts, will cast her vote in the Style Star category, and everyone’s favourite social columnist, Gwen Gill’s vote will decide the gsport Woman of the Year.

In a total of 865 voting sessions, gsport readers cast 1677 votes across the four Leading Ladies categories, and we’re delighted to confirm that the gSTAR category received the most votes out of the four categories.

Two admirable South African female sporting icons leading the pack by quite a distance, the recently-turned professional 18-year old golfing phenomenon Ashleigh Simon and national senior women’s hockey captain Marsha Marescia were neck-and-neck at it throughout the five weeks of Internet voting.

In the Woman of the Year category, the second-highest number of votes was recorded, and a vast majority (over 50%) of votes cast going to the Women’s World Cup of Golf co-founder Lesley Copeman. The Woman in Media category again had two frontrunners, Kayafm’s Lebo Thinane and the Business Day’s Zeena Isaacs, each opening up a significant majority over the rest.

In the Style Star category, 5fm’s Nicole Fox and East Coast Radio’s Margaret van der Westhuizen demonstrated a distinct appeal to the readers, is it because of their faithful radio fans?

The Judges’ votes will be valued at 40% of the total votes cast in each category, and could be critical in the final decision as to who is a winner in each of the four categories.
