Four South African golfers tee off this morning in the 2011 Aberdeen Ladies Scottish Open which takes place at Archerfield Links Golf Club in East Lothian from 18-20 August, with Lee-Anne Pace leading the way for Ashleigh Simon, Stacy Lee Bregman and Tandi Cuningham.
Pace tees off from the magnificent Fidra Links on the front nine at 9:10 in her match with Felicity Johnson (ENG), with Tandi Cuningham from Wanderers GC up against Wales’ Lydia Hall on the return nine 30 minutes later.
After an excellent June including a runners-up finish at the DeutscheBank Ladies Swiss Open, Pace had a forgettable July and will be looking to step up her good return to form at the Ladies Irish Open early August.
Cuningham has made the cut three times in the 12 tournaments she’s played in this year, and will be aiming for that marker before looking to consolidate towards another solid finish.
Next up from the 10th tee is Sophie Walker (ENG) matched with Ashleigh Simon, who comes to North Berwickwith also having used the Irish Open for a resurgence following a series of indifferent results after her career-shaping win at the Portugal Ladies Open in May.
Bregman finishes the home contingent’s Scottish Open’s start from the 10th hole at 10:30 in her match with Spain’s Tania Elosegui, and is sure to have her mind on spicing up her steady LET Tour progress with a consistent performance through all three days.
The field for the Scottish Open features many leading lights including Taipei’’s Yani Tseng who scores three tournament wins in four entries on the 2011 LET calendar so far, and Sweden’s Caroline Hedwall and Italy’s Diana Luna with two season wins each in the pocket, the South Africans will be glad for early Thursday starts with showers predicted for the afternoon and evening.
The Scottish Open will be in the unique format of a 54 hole Pro-Am tournament, with professional LET golfers playing alongside an amateur field of 60.
The amateur field will once again include a number of celebrities such as Alan Hansen and Jodie Kidd, who will also be taking on the Links of Archerfield.
