A star-studded field of athletes flocked to Shongweni Dam, Durban on Sunday, 10 February 2008 to take on the third leg of the adrenaline pumping 2007/2008 DUESOUTH XTERRA presented by Nissan.
Su Erskine pulled out all the stops on the day, crossing the finish line in 3 hours and 15 seconds securing herself a first place position in the individual women’s category of the event. According to Erskine, she had an awesome race.
"Shongweni is such an amazing venue. It is lovely for athletes and spectators a like. I only started racing again in November 2007 after taking a year off, but I am very happy with my performance and I really had a great time," says Erskine.
Robyn Adebdorf came in second with a time of 3 hours, 4 minutes and 40 seconds, while Riana de Lange finished third with a time of 3 hours, 19 minutes and 59 seconds.
Jackie Nel obtained a first place position in the individual women’s category of the XTerra Lite when she crossed the line in 1 hour, 33 minutes and 36 seconds, Mandy Nel came in second, while Rebecca van der Linde finished third.
The DueSouth XTerra Durban consisted of a 1,5km swim, 25km mountain-bike and 10km trail run discipline, while the XTerra Lite consisted of a 600m swim, 14km mountain bike and 5km trail run.
The South African DueSouth XTerra finals taking place on Saturday, 17 April 2008 form part of the XTerra Global Tour and will offer competitors the opportunity to qualify for the world championship final in Hawaii.
The global series span more than 90 qualifying events in 13 countries and take competitors to some of the most spectacular and challenging courses around the globe.
