For the past seven years, we got to know the beautiful Candice Moodley as one of the presenters on the Sunday lifestyle magazine show, Eastern Mosaic.
Candice says her time with Eastern Mosaic has allowed her to further explore, learn and appreciate her culture and Indian heritage. She also loves travelling, especially to India, which is one of her favourite foreign destinations.
But, just recently, Candice showed us a whole new side to her, when she participated in the latest Strictly Come Dancing show, which she says was a “once in a lifetime experience. She was a big favourite with the public, and made it all the way to the final, which was eventually won by HHP and his partner.
Away from TV, Candice owns a communications company with three dynamic women, specializing in marketing, communications, and special events.
This stylish Joburg resident and mother of one says she takes great pride in the fact that she can be three women in one – a wife, mother and career woman. She believes femininity is not an appearance; it is a state of mind and grace!
She describes her personal style as comfortable, easy-going, simple elegance, and says her grandmother is her favourite style icon, likening her to the iconic Jackie O. Her favourite designers include JJ Schoeman, locally, and Donna Karran, internationally.
Candice’s favourite sport is squash and now dancing, and her favourite sports star, is swimming sensation, Natalie du Toit.
She says her biggest career highlight was being chosen to MC former President Nelson Mandela’s 80th birthday Bash in the Kruger National Park.

What was it like being on Strictly Come Dancing?
It was truly a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience. Incredibly enjoyable but far harder than I anticipated. It eventually took up my entire life from sunrise (literally) to sunset, everyday.
The judges were really complimentary about your dancing. Have you always had good rhythm?
The judges were kinder to me regarding my Ballroom than they were towards my Latin ability. But on the whole I think I impressed them, more so with my determination than my rhythm.
On the rhythm side of things – I do come from a family who love to dance and I grew up on the dance floor, so I think I had a natural ability to move my body, but Quintus was very quick to make me throw away the ‘club rhythm’ to learn a whole new way of dancing – which did not come that easily!
What do you enjoy about your role as presenter?
I’ve been presenting EM for 7 years now. I love the fact that as one of their presenters I have the opportunity to further explore, learn and appreciate my culture and Indian heritage.
As a presenter I get to meet Indian icons, visit places of immense cultural and religious significance, interact with local and international Indian celebrities, travel and above all, represent a show that is glamorous, professional and at the forefront of showcasing just how colourful the Eastern culture and lifestyle is.
What are your other current projects?
Television will always be my first love, but I never saw myself having a life-long career as a presenter. I am currently more focused on WO!Communications. Together with 3 dynamic women, in 2006 we opened a marketing, communications and special events company based in Johannesburg. We are proudly 100% women owned and have established in a very short period a rather impressive client base.
WO!Com is now my main passion and I am committed to making it an even greater success.
You’ve been on TV since you were a child. How have your feelings about the industry changed over the years?
19 years is an extremely long time to be in one particular industry and over the years I guess I have seen and experienced it all.
But regardless of how much politics (and what industry doesn’t have its unique traits- good or bad) or how much things may have changed, I still am extremely energized by the industry and its huge potential to educate and grow our nation.
Seeing the young talent that’s immerging makes me excited and eager to continue to be a part of it.
If you were offered your dream TV show, what would it be?
My own talk show!!!!! I bet that’s every presenter’s dream. But truly, I would absolutely love to have my own talk show that’s hip, funky, cutting-edge in terms of production and that has an unlimited budget!
What have been some of the highlights of your career?
There have been a few but one that will forever stand out for me was when I was chosen to MC then President Nelson Mandela’s 80th birthday Bash in the Kruger National Park.
It was not the fact that I was the MC (which was a huge honour) but my highlight came when I met Madiba and he addressed me by my name – as if he knew me for years. I was so chuffed I almost cried.
gsport’s theme for August is SUPPORT. Who have supported you in your career?
Without a doubt my family and God. Without these two pillars of strength in my life I would never have achieved as much or have had half the success.
Where is the best place in the world your job has taken you?
India. I have grown to love India so much that if I don’t make a frequent trip I begin to go into depression. It’s become my fix.
What is your favourite sport?
Squash and now dancing
Who is your favourite sports star?
Natalie du Toit, she is an icon for all.
How would you describe your personal style?
Comfortable, easy-going, simple elegance. I don’t like to be restricted by trends, layers, too much bling or clothes that barely allow you to breathe. I prefer a LBD with a gorgeous heel and a striking piece of jewellery.
What is your favourite colour?
I love bright colours like reds and oranges.
Where do you shop for clothes?
I have a few boutiques locally that I usually buy from – Jo Borkett, Hilton Weiner, Marion & Lindie, but most of the time I find myself going into Woolies and buying a whole wardrobe of clothes.
When I’m in India, I also go mad as they have the most amazing clothes in varying colours, fabrics and styles.
What is your favourite item of clothing?
My jeans. It’s so versatile.
Any favourite designers?
Locally, JJ Schoeman, Haroun Hansrott, Gavin Rajah and internationally, Donna Karan.
What’s the strangest outfit you’ve ever worn?
I don’t do strange – so if I feel uncomfortable in it I just don’t wear it. So thankfully, there has never been a strange outfit dilemma.
What’s the best style tip you’ve been given/or you’ve heard about?
Shoes maketh the outfit! (This may just be my way of justifying to my hubby why I have so many pairs). I have always maintained that a stunning pair of shoes will always make you look and feel amazing.
Who are your style icons?
My late Grandmother is my ultimate style icon. She reminded me of Jackie O – always impeccably dressed with the most amazing accessories from her handbags to her shoes. In her youth she was absolutely stunning and dressed like she was a film star.

I take great pride in the fact that I can be 3 women in 1 – a wife, mother and career woman. Femininity is not an appearance; it is a state of mind and grace.
Greatest ambition?
To be one the most successful women in business in Africa.
