Anriëtte Schoeman (Nashua Toyota) continued her winning streak this weekend when she won the Makro Bestmed Cycle Tour after winning the Dome-to-Dome Cycle Tour the previous weekend in Johannesburg.
The ladies started the 90km race with the open licensed category. With 70km to go Rodger Pheiffer and seven men got away at St Albans, and the top ladies managed to stay with the main bunch till the climb at the Fairview Road turnoff.
An attack by Mario Nel and Weslee Todkill left some riders behind including Lilandi Swanepoel from Bizhub.
Schoeman made her move up the 3km Maitland’s climb to take the QOM. On the summit the main bunch split into two with Lindi Dorfling (Bizhub) just missing the break.
Schoeman – as part of the breakaway group – slowly opened a gap on Dorfling and Allison Hertel (Wayne Pheiffer Cycles), who was in the third bunch.
The chasing bunch with Schoeman could not succeed on closing the gap on the Pheiffer group who managed to stay away, and she stayed away to win the ladies race with Lindi Dorfling finishing second, and Allison Hertel tying up the podium with bronze.
