Banyana Banyana will be going all out to ensure they come out triumphantly against Zimbabwe in Harare at 3pm on Saturday, in their first leg qualifier for the African Women’s Championships.
Despite their loss to Nigeria last Saturday, Banyana’s Coach Augustine Makalakalane is confident that they will win, and qualify to compete for the Women’s Championships in Guinea later this year. “We are going there full of confidence,” Makalakalane
says, “Knowing that we could
have beaten Nigeria after playing well in that game.”
“We must win
games, and qualify for CAF and FIFA competitions. We are playing an
important game against Zimbabwe, and we are playing them away in their
own backyard, so this is not an easy game. The composition of this team is that of a fairly young talented side, which I’m grooming to lead Banyana’s march towards becoming the number one team in Africa. That march starts against Zimbabwe.”
The national women’s coach has been forced into two changes from the team that lost at the Caledonian Stadium in Pretoria last weekend, “I’m keeping the same team I used against Nigeria,” said Makalakalane. “I have only two changes affecting Linah Motsebo – who is jetting out to USA, and an ill Janine van Wyk. They have been replaced by Xolisile Mnikati and Hlengiwe Ngwane, respectively.”
