Basetsana, the women’s U20 South African soccer team has been in camp at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria since Thursday, ahead of their historical week-long tour Germany, forming a vital part of the team’s preparations for the upcoming Women’s Under-20 World Cup qualifiers.
The South Africans are due to face Mozambique in the preliminaries of the Women U20 FIFA World Cup in 2008, and will host their Mozambican counterparts on the weekend of 11 January, with the return leg scheduled for the weekend of 25 January, in Mozambique.
The qualifiers precede the FIFA U20 World Cup will be held in Chile, South America, later next year, and to encourage the local side to qualify, the expertise of Tina Theune-Meyer has been gained, as the former German World Cup winning coach is sure to make some progress with the technical team of women’s football head coach, Augustine Makalakalane, alongside Basetsana coach Anna Monate
The South African U20 side will first encounter the U20 German team on 21 November 21, before moving to Hanover before their clash with the Netherlands U19 side four days later.
Experienced members of the senior Banyana Banyana side include Gloria Thato, Memory Makhanya and Kylie-Ann Louw, and their input will give the side valuable input.
