It was another superb ending of a great season for Banyana Banyana striker Belinda Nkosi, at the Vodacom Play-Offs in QwaQwa this past weekend.
To top the 25 goals she already bagged throughout the season, Nkosi scored a further eight goals at the Vodacom play offs to make sure her team, the Super Falcons, secured the victory to become Vodacom Champions.
In addition to all the accolades, they beat the mighty Durban Ladies in the final; and this performance also pushed her goal tally up to 33 goals for the season.
Nkosi says that going to the final for the third time with a different team has always been one of her aspirations. “Playing in the final for the third time is what I always wanted.
“It’s the third time I participated in the Play-Offs final,” said Nkosi. “The first two times I played with Moroko Swallows, and now with the Super Falcons. With Swallows we lost one year, and we won the other year.
“And I always said that I would really love to go to the finals with a different team, and when I joined Falcons in the beginning of the season, that was my goal.”
The final was quite intense according to Nkosi: “Even though we won, they gave us a tough time, it was not easy but we won and I scored both goals.”
But she could not have asked for the season to end in a better way, because she managed to scoop an impressive four of the top awards on offer.
“I won the Top Goal Scorer Award and I received a cell phone, compliments of Vodacom. I also won the Man Of The Match Award twice that weekend, and the Player Of The Tournament.”
Belinda is currently with the Banyana Banyana squad in Johannesburg in a camp, as they prepare for their next 2008 Olympic qualifier, against Zimbabwe in Pretoria on Sunday.
