The powerful Blue Bulls, with a full contingent of returning Springboks, will be looking to drive home their advantage against Western Province in the Women’s Rugby Inter-Provincial Final at Loftus, starting at 10:30am tomorrow morning.
The Blue Bulls thumped Boland 111-0 at home last weekend, and it seems that they like an early start to their Saturdays.
In Boland’s first appearance in a semi-final, the end score suggests that they were little more than light training practice against the form Pretoria team, who scored 17 tries unchallenged to beat the Boland minnows comprehensively, leading 43-nil at half-time.
Western Province will be approaching tomorrow’s final with some apprehension, though their 51-8 demolition of South Western Districts in Mossel Bay last Saturday suggests that they aren’t about to fold without a fight.
Their encounter saw half-time with a narrow 10-8 lead against SWD, but skill and fitness ensured that the second half saw them pile on another 8 tries without conceding a point.
Both title contenders feature talented scrummaging as key offensive tools, and it will be interesting to see which of the teams will make the most use of their packs.
