Girlsport is an Academy that offers soccer training to girls in a safe, fun environment, where every training session is disciplined, professional and structured. Our motto being “A beautiful game for beautiful girls”.

Girlsport trains in various schools in Johannesburg on a private
capacity throughout the year from mid-January to mid-December. We accommodate
training times around the school sport schedule so that the girls will not have
to choose between school sport and extra-mural activities and by doing this; we
add value to what the schools already have to offer.

History of Girlsport

Girlsport was founded by Tracy Lee Pepper in 2004
whose accomplishments to date have been outstanding. From successfully
completing the SAFA Introductory and CAF women’s coaches courses as well as the
Easterns Referees and Level 1 SAFA referees courses, to being awarded the position
of head coach for the Easterns Local Football Association Woman’s team in 2007.

Her passion and enjoyment for the game has seen the
concept of coaching girls football in their own age group and gender grow into
a thriving Academy where Girlsport are well known and respected for producing
quality and talented young players.

Cassidy Pepper, coach for Girlsport, was selected
to attend trails for the U17 SA Squad and has received her Provincial colours
for four consecutive years. Kirsten M’Crystal, also a coach for Girlsport, was
selected to attend trails for the same U17 SA Squad and was selected for the
squad as goalkeeper.

Both players were selected for the U17 Invitational
squad, which participated in the International Club Football Festival in Aberdeen, Scotland
in June 2005. In the squad of eighteen girls no less than seven were Girlsport
members.

Girlsport at Present

Girlsport currently has 140 members attending ten
different school venues. The age groups range from 7 -10 years, 11 -13 years
and then open which is 14 -18 years.

We have implemented two competitive girls’
school leagues for the first time:
 Girlsport U13 Spring Girls Soccer League;
Girlsport Open High School
Girls Soccer League

Both leagues have been a huge success with both of
them finishing up at the end of October 2008. As it stands, our Girlsport
Edenvale High School Side (which comprises of girls from various schools in the
East that do not offer girls soccer) is on top of the log with nine wins in 10 matches, and having scored 52 goals against 8 conceded.

Our Girlsport Redhill Primary side is currently
on top of their log with clean sheets in three matches, having sunk 13 goals against three allowed.

Girlsport currently have two teams in the Easterns
Local Football Association League and will be entering a team into the
Promotional League in November.

Girlsport recently has
also become members of the J.P.S.F.A (Johannesburg Primary School Football
Association) as well as ISASA (Independent Schools Association of South Africa)

Girlsport Future

Our plans for next year
is to run a nationwide schools league in all 9 provinces,
U13 and Open (Grade 8 – 12), which in principle has been endorsed by SAFA. We
also have two major companies who are very interested in sponsoring the whole
project, as we are looking to having it televised with it ending at the final
play-offs to be hosted in Gauteng.

Girlsport also plans to
host various coaches courses in conjunction with SAFA to promote and develop a
higher level of coaching in order to produce quality and talented players.
