Celebrating You!

It’s the weekend, and I am in a particular good mood,
because for the first time in six months, we are heading down to the coast for
a well-earned rest, which hopefully will include countless walks on the beach,
some serious R&R, and quality time with friends. That’s the great thing
about the festive season, however you choose to spend this time, the most
important thing is that you celebrate the best of 2008.

Its been a wonderful year for gsport, one in which the team
has continued to strive to promote the best of women’s sport, and encourage
women to find inspiration from each other to surge ahead, and reach for the
stars.

Four months ago, a host of amazing women got together at
Jacaranda Hill, Westcliff Hotel in Johannesburg
for the 2008 gsport Awards, an event that celebrates the best South African
women have to offer.

Probably the most pleasing thing about the growth of gsport
is your enthusiasm and your contribution to the vision of raising the profile
of women in sport, and showcasing vibrant South African women who serve as role
models.

It’s been heartwarming to read the personal stories sent
through by you, and our hope is that you continue to share your experiences,
knowledge, and wisdom with other women, who dream of making it big in their own
fields.

Singling out the best moment of 2008 is tough because so
many of you have excelled, but there is no doubt that Natalie du Toit has once
again been the inspiration to millions of people around the world, following
her courageous performances at the Olympic Games, and her medal-winning efforts
at the Paralympic Games.

When we first launched gsport back in August 2006, we had
no clue what we were getting ourselves into. All we knew is that the profile of
women’s sport needs to be raised, and we wanted to be part of this journey.

At the beginning, gsport attracted an average of 10 to 20
visitors a day. Just this year alone, gsport has had in excess of 75,000 unique
visitors, and over four-and-a-half million hits, and we still have a few weeks
to go before we say goodbye to 2008.

So, what does 2009 hold for gsport? Plenty of exciting
developments, which we hope will take this initiative to a whole new level.

gsport would not be what it is today without the support of

Lee Plaskitt, and you, gsport’s faithful audience!
