After losing their first ICC Women’s T20 World Cup match against Sri Lanka, #MomentumProteas Vice-Captain Chloé Tryon says there was a change of mindset in the team’s approach, which led to their 65-run victory in the second encounter against New Zealand.
Speaking to the media on Monday, 13 February 2023, at Boland Park in Paarl, Tryon revealed that the team went back to basics as they thumped the visiting side to earn their first points in Group A.
“Everyone came today (Monday) with the mindset of just working hard. I know we put up a score of 130+, like I said I thought it was a little short, but every bowler knew what they needed to do. And, you could kinda see that fire burning in everyone that they wanted it so badly.
“Look, the competition is still going on, we still have two really good games coming up, so we have to just make sure that we still have that fire burning and kinda be ruthless as a bowling unit.”
The South Africans will play Australia at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Saturday, 18 February and Bangladesh in their last Group A match on Tuesday, 21 February at Newlands Cricket Ground.
