Cindy Stewart reigned supreme in front of her home crowd in both the 60m and 150m sprint races at the first Yellow Pages Summer Series Meeting in Port Elizabeth.

Stewart is a past master at the non-standard races, having dominated the 2010 Summer Series, and seemed destined to continue that trend after her 7.41 win in the 60m ahead of Janice Josephs and youth athlete Philippa van der Merwe, the two clocking 7.57 sec and 7.64 sec respectively.

Stewart’s bullet-like start saw her come out of the bend first in the 150m final and although Van der Merwe and Stacey Gardiner tried hard, they were never going to chase her down, Stewart finishing almost half a second ahead the duo.

Her time 17.82sec to the 18.18sec clocked by both van der Merwe and Gardiner. What is impressive though is that van der Merwe is still a Youth Athlete.

“I really enjoy the non-standard events,” said Stewart after her double win. “I certainly seem to thrive in the 60m so I will see if I cannot get to race in Europe in the indoor season and hopefully qualify for the World Indoor Championships in March.” Stewart was announced as woman athlete of the meet with her double win.

Meanwhile former 3000m SA Steeplechase Record Holder, Nolene Conrad was in a class of her won in the women’s 3000m race. The UJ student clocking 9:50;40 for a comfortable win.
