The City of Cape Town and the 2023 Netball World Cup Board celebrated 100 days to the Vitality Netball World Cup at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on Wednesday, 19 April.

Members of the media were welcomed by Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa, Deputy Minister, Nocawe Mafu, Netball South Africa President Cecilia Molokwane, as well as Western Cape Government Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, and Executive Mayor of City of Cape Town, Geordin Hill-Lewis.
The special occasion was a hive of activity, as the World Cup fever hit the streets of Cape Town, with the unveiling of a momentous street painting featuring the structure of a netball court which also showcases the national flower and Table Mountain.
At the event, it was also announced by Mayor Hill-Lewis that there will be a fan park from the CTICC to the N2, and an additional four fan parks around the city where the public will be allowed to participate and watch the tournament.
Speaking to gsport at the gathering, Maties netball coach and former SPAR Proteas captain, Zanele Mdodana shared her views, saying: “We are 100 days away from the biggest netball competition in the world and we are in Cape Town, telling the netball story.
“The media’s responsibility is immense to tell the right story, to be present, to be available and make sure that netball is being showcased, and reaching many corners. It is netball’s time!”
The #NWC2023 will be held in Cape Town, South Africa from 28 July – 6 August 2023 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, with 16 of the world’s top netball nations, including the hosts South Africa, competing.
