Costa v Costa in Margate Pro-Am

The ninth annual Wimpy/Rossi Bodyboarding Pro-Am is taking
place at Margate Main
Beach from May 2 to 4, and is set to
entertain thousands of holidaymakers on a packed Margate main beach which has a reputation of
attracting big waves, making for some spectacular rides and high-risk
manoeuvres.

An estimated 120 bodyboarders from around the country will
be travelling to the KwaZulu-Natal south coast to compete in the event which
will earn them valuable points for their quest to be South African Bodyboarding
Champ.

The second event of the circuit looks set to be the biggest
yet where the Pro riders will have R12 000 up for grabs, courtesy of Wimpy, and
Dropknee riders will be fighting it out for R2 400 and product prizes sponsored
by the online surf store.

Something to look forward to is the mother and daughter
duo, Maria Costa and Karla Costa Taylor, who will be battling it out against
each other for the top spot in the women’s division.

Costa-Taylor, a former two-times world champion, will go up
against her mother Maria, currently out from Brazil
on holiday in South Africa.
The younger Costa has made it clear that her mom can still give her a run for
her money, and she will definitely be keeping an eye out for her in the final.

A development clinic will also be held during the course of
the event and is open to anyone who wishes to give bodyboarding a try. Equipment
will be available.
