Prudence Sekgodiso won double gold at the Athletics South Africa Track and Field Championships at the North West University McArthur Athletics Stadium in Potchefstroom on Saturday, 1 April 2023.
Sekgodiso grabbed her first victory in the women’s 1500m Under-25 category with a time of 04:17.22. She was followed by Carina Viljoen in second place with a time of 04:20.16 and Simone Weitsz in third place in 04:21.02.
Later in the day, Sekgodiso shone once again, grabbing her second gold in the women’s 800m event with a time of 02:03.92. Gena Lofstrand followed in second place with a time of 02:05.10 and Charné Swart clocking 02:05.92 to earn a third place finish.
Elsewhere, Marione Fourie grabbed gold in the women’s 100m hurdles in 12.98s, she was followed by Chane Kok in second place with a time of 13.86s and Kayla van der Berg rounding up the top three in 13.91s.
In the 400m race, Miranda Coetzee set the tone, taking a 0:51.04 win. Marlie Viljoen claimed a second place finish in 0:51.87 and Shirley Nekhubui in third with a time of 0:52.20.
