DSG School for Girls in Makhanda have announced plans of hosting the first ever Rising Champions Challengers Cup for U16 Girls, taking place from 4-7 August 2023 as announced by SA School Sports on Monday, 28 November 2022.

The top 12 teams featured in the SA School Sports Hockey Rankings for U16, include Paarl Gym, Oranje Meisies, Herschel, Menlopark and Monument to name a few.

Meanwhile, the teams placed 13 – 23 such as St Mary’s Kloof who in position 13, Cambridge in position 16 and Bloemhof in position 20 on the rankings will be considered for an invitation to the Rising Champions Challengers Cup.

Tournament Details

The Tournament Committee will apply the following criteria before inviting teams:

The teams ranked 13-23 as per rankings on 31 May 2023 will be considered for an invite to compete in this Tournament.

If some of the teams between 13-23 are not available then No. 24 will be invited, and then No. 25, etc.

The 2023 Official Rankings of SA School Sports will be used.

The scores of ALL games played from March 2023 must be submitted to SA School Sports Magazine to qualify.

N.B. Two “wild card” invitations will be made at the Tournament Organiser’s invitation.

A team may have a maximum of 16 players, 2 goalkeepers, and 3 staff.

To qualify a team must play at least 13 hockey games.
