At least 25% of the field at last year’s Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge field were women and organisers are expecting another good turnout from female cyclists when the race takes place this year on Sunday, 18 November.

94.7 radio personality Sam Cowan sets off on the 2011 Cycle Challenge. Cowan will be joined on the 2012 route by the recently-returned Anele Mdoda, new anchor of the mid-morning slot on the popular Gauteng regional station. Entries are now open and riders are being encouraged to enter online at www.cyclechallenge.co.za. Entries for the Mountain Bike Challenge and Kiddies Ride will open in May.

The Cycle Challenge experience kicks off with the Kiddies Ride on Saturday, 10th November, followed by the sought-after Mountain Bike Challenge on Sunday, 11th November. The main race will take place the following weekend on Sunday, 18th November. Only people over the age of 12 years may enter the Road Race.

The Ride for a Purpose campaign has been a great success and it will continue to be the underlying thread throughout the race.

“Last year, a staggering R4.5 million was raised by different charities through the Ride for a Purpose campaign,” said Momentum’s Danie van den Bergh. “We always aim to empower our beneficiaries to successfully sustain themselves and the Ride for a Purpose campaign reflects this purpose.”

Through the Ride for a Purpose campaign, cyclists are encouraged to sign up with a greater goal in mind. Whether it be fundraising for a cause that is important to them, or simply riding in memory of a loved one, the Ride for a Purpose campaign aims to inspire all participants to do it for a cause greater than their physical challenge.

Stories about riding for a purpose can be shared on the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge Facebook page.
