Five Tips to Successfully Build Your Personal Brand in 2022

by | Jan 12, 2022

Building your career from the ground up takes a lot of hard work and dedication, especially when you want to excel within your respective field.

In 2022, personal branding is more important than ever before, one reason is that it is more popular for recruiters or sponsors to use social media during an interview or screening process.

However, developing a great personal brand doesn’t happen overnight. It’s imperative to be able to communicate your purpose and mission to your audience in a genuine way.

Alexandro Chronides, writing for APC Sports, says: “Don’t build your future around your brand. Build your brand around your future.”

Taking this concept further, he explains: This is where empowerment comes in. You get to decide what future you want to have. What do you want your future self to be? How do you want it to act? What do you want it to be able to wear? Eat? Promote? Express? The choice is yours. Once you have a rough idea about the above, then you can start building your brand around these future choices.”

On the power of personal branding, expert Laura Barnard, singles out Billie Jean King, as a prime example of someone who is getting it right.

“Through her actions and words, King consistently stands for and promotes gender equity and social justice. Her brand of advocacy is active through social media, where she often highlights current and past moments in women’s history, and through the numerous organizations she has formed and supports to help level the playing field, such as the Women’s Sports Foundation. There is no question of where King stands in her personal beliefs or what her brand stands for, and her impact on the industry is unquestioned.”

Covid-19 has put added pressure on women in sport, but careers expert, William Arruda, feels this could give women an opportunity to rethink what’s important and where they can deliver the greatest value.

“Returning to where you were may not be what you want or need. After all, you’ve learned a lot about yourself over the past year and have gained new skills and a little bit of perspective from not being immersed in work. Your post-pandemic profession should be meaningful, giving you the opportunity to contribute your unique skills and style.”

To guide you along your journey, here are five ways you can take your personal brand to the next level:

1. Build the Brand

To start building your brand, make sure you:

a) Define Your Brand

What do you want to be known for? Before giving yourself a personal brand, make sure you know what you want to be known for or associated with. Once you figure that out, you can start making plans, but make sure you stick to the timeline.

b) Create an Online Presence

Before creating an online presence to represent your personal brand, it will be key to clean up any existing online presence that contradicts what you want to become known for.

2. Gain Brand Credibility

Once you have built the foundation of your personal brand, you have to start gaining credibility.

To achieve this, you will have to choose social media platforms that are perfect for your niche. For example, if you are aiming to create long video content, YouTube will be the perfect option.

The next step is to build and engage an audience by strategically releasing relevant content in the right places.

3. Create Quality Content Over Quantity

Content is key in establishing your online presence, which makes it a vital part of your brand’s digital marketing strategy.

Content can be used to establish authority and credibility, raise brand awareness and boost engagement.

4. Open Doors for Personal Branding Opportunities

By creating high-quality content, you create more opportunities for you and your brand, like promotions, blog exchanges, speaking gigs, partnerships, and more.

To go that extra step further than simply publishing content, try these approaches to promote awareness of your brand:
– Network at industry events, in-person and online,
– Join online forums, and
– Join social media groups.

5. Be consistent

Finally, after testing the waters with all of these tactics, make sure to be consistent in creating and uploading your content to remain relevant.
