The Gauteng Thunderbolts Women were recently crowned 2022 National Volleyball League Champions after defeating the Mpumalanga Buffaloes.
The tournament took place from the 26-30 September at the Tempe Sports Complex in Bloemfontein, Free State.
Days prior to the tournament, the teams were placed into two pools where they would come up against each other to eventually qualify for the semi-finals.

Day 1 results of the Volleyball South Africa’s National Volleyball League saw victories for Limpopo, Gauteng and Free State in Pool A. While in Pool B, KZN, North West, Western Cape and Mpumalanga also overcame their opponents.

On Day 2, Gauteng maintained their unbeaten run, while Mpumalanga dominated proceedings in their pool.

The playoffs took place on Day 3 where North West beat Northern Cape 3-0 to end the tournament in 7th place. While in the 5th/6th playoff match, Western Cape overcame Free State by the same goal margin.
The semi-finals were contested by Gauteng and KZN, while Mpumalanga entertained Limpopo. Both KZN and Mpumalanga went down 3-0 to their opponents, which meant that the final was going to see Gauteng and Mpumalanga battling it out for the coveted crown.

In the final, the Gauteng went on to beat Mpumalanga 3-0 to win the championship.
