As South Africa’s national women’s hockey side prepare to take on the top-rated visiting Australian Hockeyroos at the Tshwane University of Technology at 7pm this evening, even coach Jenny King has time to wish the AmaBhokobhoko and the Proteas well for their matches this evening.

The major sporting event the nation is anxiously anticipating is the Springbok’s Rugby World Cup final in Paris, France tomorrow evening, but King also has encouraging thoughts for the Proteas in Pakistan.

"There’s a fantastic winning vibe in our country at the moment," King told gsport on Friday. "There’s a deep belief in sport, and cricket and rugby, and hockey to a certain extent now, are starting to prove that."

The national women’s hockey team struck hope in the hearts of many supporters, by recording a moral-boosting 2-1 come-from-behind win over the Hockeyroos, in advance of this evening’s second test, with a series final to be played on Saturday at 3:30pm, at the Randburg Hockey stadium.

At the French Rugby World Cup, the Springboks contest Paris’ final against a resurgent England as the tournament’s only unbeaten side remaining, and the green fever sweeping the nation is building the momentum in hope of becoming only the second nation ever, after Australia, to have won the Webb Ellis cup twice (9pm SA time kick-off).

And in Pakistan, the Proteas take on an unpredictable but talent-laden home side in the second of five ODI’s in Lahore on Saturday (11am SA Time start), after having recorded a nerve-wracking 45-run win on Thursday.

"I wish everyone every bit of luck," continued an enthusiastic King, "And perhaps we can get three wins out of three sport codes, it would be fantastic for our country!"
