As we all know, Christmas is a season of joy, coming together, spending time with our loved ones and reflect on the year.

We had the opportunity to chat to 2022 Momentum gsport Awards winners to share what they are grateful for this Christmas.

Supporter of the Year winner Nakedi Thlathla says: “Personally, Christmas time is a time of gratitude. I am grateful for the good year I have had in terms of business and also my family for the love and support they’ve shared with me. Also, I have a highlight this year – becoming part of the gsport family as a Supporter of the Year winner.”

She added: “I am truly grateful for the recognition as this has instilled some motivation and I was able to form really amazing friendships. I got the opportunity to network with women in sport that I have been looking up to. This Christmas, I would like to basically acknowledge everyone who came into my life and made me smile. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas.”

South Africa’s golden girl and swim sensation Lara van Niekerk, who walked away as a triple winner at #gsport17 says: “I am grateful for having my family together this Christmas.”

FIFA-accredited referee and 2022 Momentum gsport Imperial African Woman in Sport winner, Akhona Makalima, has been traveling the world this year and says she is grateful that she is home with her family.

“I am forever grateful that I am going to spend this Christmas with my family at my grandparents house after so many years, play games, cook our favourite dishes, share childhood memories and crack silly jokes but importantly give each other some love. I am so grateful for this moment. This is very rare these days. That is why I am super grateful.”

Dorah Vuyelwa Mngwevu added: “The year 2022 was a very special year, I received the Special Recognition award from gsport and my daughter got married to Hezekiel Sepeng. That completes my year end as a special Christmas.”

SuperSport Woman in TV winner, Nono Xaba concluded: “I’m grateful to be alive, to love and be loved. I’m grateful to live a purpose driven life. That I have the opportunity to do work I believe in and contribute positively in the lives of those I come into contact with.”
