Glamorous women in sport joined successful women from all walks of life on Friday, as Cosmopolitan magazine held a celebratory lunch in Mandela Square, Johannesburg, to pay tribute to Cosmo’s Awesome Women .
Banyana Banyana captain, Portia Modise was in attendance, and led a dynamic group of eight women in sport featured as Cosmo’s 2007 Awesome Women, which include professional surfer Rosy Hodge, champion weightlifter Babalwa Ndleleni-Ramahlape, dancer and choreographer Amy Rosslind, talented athlete Justine Robbeson, champion gymnast Odette Richard, Lorna Maseko, a soloist with the South African Ballet Theatre, and gsport Editor Kass Naidoo.
Vanessa Raphaely, editor of Cosmopolitan, said: "We are showcasing this year’s Awesome Women in Cosmopolitan SA’s biggest issue ever. From weightlifting to scientists to CEOs, they are empowered and unstoppable. These women are definitely doing something right and they are sharing their advice with all those other local women who are on their own paths to success."
Our women in sport enjoyed themselves as they celebrated their selection among Awesome Women over a scrumptious lunch at The Michaelangelo, which featured Gerry Rantseli-Elsdon as keynote speaker, and the beautiful sounds of James Stewart’s musical talents.
Rantseli-Elsdon told the audience: "There can be no denying that women have made tremendous progress in many areas of their home lives, business and politics and yet in many cases their inner lives are still in disarray. My challenge to each of you today is to take the time and make the effort to find that work – life balance that is necessary for you to live a fulfilled, whole life."
The annual feature in the December issue of Cosmopolitan, sponsored by Pantene, celebrates exceptional local women with a variety of careers who are pioneering a way for South African women – and they are having fun doing it.
