How gsport Impacted My Career

Oh man, where do I even start?

A little over a year ago, I, Rudene Hare, from Komani formally known as Queenstown in the Eastern Cape, received an email from gsport Founder Kass Naidoo, asking if I would be keen on joining the gsport Team. Of course my answer was, YES!

At the time, I was doing social media updates for another media outlet, while also being a sales assistant at a sports shop in Komani. I shared a lot of sporting updates on my Twitter account and that was where I caught the eye of gsport.

Apart from work, I also hold a Sport Management Diploma and an Advanced Diploma in Events Management – now we understand where my love for sport comes from!

Not long after sending my CV to Kass, I received a phone call from her offering me an intern opportunity. I remember I was so nervous on the day because I spoke to Kass Naidoo and I even called her “Mam” – LOL!

I started off my internship doing all the social media updates and some writing in between for the Newsroom.

I knew little about writing at the time, but the more I started to write, the more I improved and fell in love with it because I got to tell stories about women doing an outstanding job in their respective sporting codes.

Joining the gsport Team has allowed me to grow as an individual, a writer and creator. The best part, I have the opportunity to work with individuals who are always open to assist and share advice on where I can improve.

Being part of the team has taught me a lot about women in sport, the work they do

and all the hard work they put into their craft.

So, my message for young women trying to make it in the industry and are given an opportunity by gsport – don’t take it for granted! Working for gsport will not only allows you to grow as an individual, it will also allow you to work with talented women and you get exposure to know and understand the ins and outs of the industry.

Lastly, I want to thank Kass for giving me the opportunity to grow every day and to Celine Abrahams (gsport Content Lead) for always dealing with me and all my questions, and for being patient with me. It’s really an honour being part of gsport!
