We’ve had a wonderful response to the opening of nominations, and we’re thrilled to see so many passionate supporters eager to recognise the contributions of women in sport.
However, to ensure every nomination is properly considered, it’s crucial to nominate in the correct category, and to provide key information. Here’s how you can help us achieve this:
Understand the Categories: There are 20 public categories, each recognising different contributions to women’s sport. Take time to read through the descriptions below to ensure your nominee fits the chosen category perfectly.
Select the Appropriate Category: Make sure you’re selecting the most suitable category for your nominee. This ensures they are evaluated correctly and increases their chances of being recognised.
Provide Detailed Information: When filling out the nomination form, provide as much relevant information as possible. This helps the judges make informed decisions, especially if the nominee is not widely known.
Categories for Nomination in the 2024 Momentum gsport Awards
Momentum Athlete of the Year: A South African sportswoman who has excelled internationally during the Year under Review (30 June 2023 to 30 June 2024).
Para Sport Star: A South African Para Athlete who has excelled at an international or national level during the Year under Review.
Emerging Athlete of the Year: An emerging sportswoman over the age of 18 who has excelled at an international or national level.
School Sports Star of the Year: A young girl in sport 18 years or under who has excelled athletically.
Team of the Year: A team of South African sportswomen who have excelled as a unit.
Coach of the Year: A coach who has made a significant impact on women’s sport.
Telkom Woman of the Year: A formidable woman who contributes significantly to the growth of sport in South Africa.
African Woman in Sport: A woman who is impacting sport in Africa.
Global Woman in Sport: A woman who is impacting sport globally.
Woman in Social Media: A woman who creates powerful online content about SA women in sport.
Woman in Print: A woman in print who excels in her environment.
Woman in PR and Sponsorship: A woman in public relations and sponsorship.
Woman in Radio: A woman who promotes women’s sport content on radio.
Woman in Television: A woman who creates powerful TV content about SA women in sport.
Style Star of the Year: A vibrant South African woman in sport known for her style and elegance.
Volunteer of the Year: A long-serving volunteer who raises the profile of women’s sport.
Supporter of the Year: An individual who fuels the success of sportswomen.
Special Recognition: An individual who has made a long and positive impact on SA women in sport.
Sponsor of the Year: A commercial sponsor supporting women’s sport.

Nomination are open until 9 August 2024 after which the esteemed gsport Judging Panel will shortlist finalists across the 20 public categories, before the public get to play their part by voting for their leading candidate to decide winners. Finalists are announced on 22 August 2024.
