Sailing Team Isigungu’s skipper Dominique Provoyeur has filed her final blog from Key Biscane at the conclusion of the Women’s Worlds, off Miami, Florida, in the USA.
Miami, Florida – US Sailing Centre on S. Bayshore Drive, 14 February 2008
Hello All,
Three races were scheduled for today, to make up for the one we lost yesterday. The wind had finally died and the sun out for a great day on the water.
Sarah Ayton and her Great Britain team turned in a pearler performance all week, and won the title of World Champions for the second consecutive time with one race and the medal race to spare.
We on the other hand were fighting for a top ten finish to participate in the medal race. Our goal for this event was not to be realised, but we ended the regatta better than we started.
The tricky conditions had all teams struggling at one stage or another with many boats in the top 10 scoring their worst race for the regatta. With lighter winds, space on the start was vital. We had two reasonable starts and one shocker, but managed to pull through from all of them to end off with a 12, 5 and 15 to finish 15th overall.
All in all, we are happy with the results, we have worked hard to get up the ranks to consistently finish mid fleet, but now the challenge is on to work harder to get to the next level and the top 10. We aren’t far off, but we need to break the plateau, and keep climbing the ladder.
We will be home on the 19th Feb for about a month, we will use this time to dig deep within ourselves and find ways to get the learning curve going up again.
The Four final countries to get selected for the Olympics are: Greece, Norway, France and Italy.
