The international tournament, which will take place in Cape Town, has attracted international players from Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Nigeria, Chile and Austria, and over 115 men’s and women’s players will compete in the event.

Montjane is looking to continue her current winning streak, after her clean sweep of all the South African Tournaments in 2008, with ACSA Pretoria Open, ACSA Johannesburg Open and ACSA Free State Open all under her belt, in addition to being selected to compete in the 2008 Beijing Paralympics.

The ACSA SA Open is sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is classified as an ITF grade three event which means players stand a chance of increasing their world ranking points and winning more prize money.

The event will be played under the auspices of Wheelchair Tennis South Africa (WTSA), an organisation that is focused on developing the sport in Africa, supported by the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) as part of the company’s corporate social investment programme.

Commenting on ACSA’s involvement in wheelchair tennis Solomon Makgale, Communications Manager for ACSA says, "Through a strong partnership with WTSA, ACSA hopes to popularise the sport, raise awareness and encourage more people with disabilities to participate in wheelchair tennis on a social and professional level.

"Wheelchair tennis is one of the fastest growing disabled sports in South Africa and we are seeing an increase in emerging young players year on year. We hope to encourage many more players to take an interest in the game," said Makgale.

"It’s great to see so many international wheelchair tennis players taking part in this tournament." says Holger Losch, Director of WTSA. "These tournaments give the players vital match playing experience that provides a solid foundation for all players. For the most experienced players, these tournaments will help them prepare for the major international events, like the World Team Cup."
