South Africa’s Laryne Jefferies finished the 2023 Senior African Weightlifting Championship in fourth place in the 71kg weight division in Tunisia.

Taking to Instagram, Jefferies said: “4th place F71 Senior African Weightlifting Championship 2023. Tough competition, honoured to battle with such strong women on the platform.

“As the saying goes, “Happy but never satisfied,” and I feel like I still have so much more in the tank.

“Thank you to everyone that helped us make it here and for all the messages, love and support, I feel very blessed to feel like so many people have my back.”

After fighting against Africa’s greatest weightlifters in her second visit, she set a new F71 South African Snatch record.

Jefferies previously won three bronze medals and a silver medal at the African Senior Weightlifting Championship in Cairo, Egypt.

In 2022, the Movement Crew member won gold in the 71kg weight class and was the competition’s first female overall.
