Last Chance for a Cycle Tour Start

Cyclists who missed the entry cut-off for the 2008 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour have one last chance to earn a spot at the start line, by securing a substitution entry by taking the place of a cyclist who can no longer participate.

The cost of a substitution entry is R250, irrespective of PPA or CSA membership.

Cyclists who have internet access, a valid credit card and the details of a cyclist who wants to withdraw can make an online substitution application:

  • Visit the online entry page on the Cycle Tour website by 22 February.
  • Enter the details of the person who is entering as a substitute.
  • Pay the substitution fee online.
  • Download a consent form for the cyclist withdrawing, who must complete the form and fax it to 021 685 6648.

Organisers will e-mail a confirmation letter to the substitution entrant within 48 hours of receiving the consent form. Cyclists can also follow a manual application procedure:

  • Download the substitution entry and consent forms or call 021 685 6551 to request a fax.
  • Post the completed entry form, the signed consent form from the person withdrawing, as well as a cheque / postal order to Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust, P O Box 777, Rondebosch, 7701. This must reach the organisers by 22 February. No late substitutions will be accepted.

New entrants will receive a new race number in the start group for which they qualify, but cyclists who choose to withdraw will not receive a refund.

For safety reasons, entrants may not allow anyone else to use the race number allocated to them.

"While it seems an easy solution to give your race number to a friend or relative to participate in your place, the possible consequences could be life-threatening," says David Bellairs of the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour organising team.

"Participants’ details, including their medical and emergency contact information, are linked to their race number, and this number is our first port of call in an emergency situation."

Those participating with another cyclist’s race number will be disqualified, while the original entrant will be suspended from future events.
