Momentum Proteas top order batswoman, Laura Wolvaardt, has been picked to replace injured Gujarat Giants captain Beth Mooney for the remainder of the inaugural Women’s Premier League.

The Australian suffered a knee injury while running for a single in the first over of Gujarat’s run-chase against Mumbai Indians in the WPL’s opener and had to retire from the match. Mooney was set to keep wicket and captain for Gujarat under former Australian teammate, Racheal Haynes.

Haynes has decided to pick the South African, who went unsold during the auction in February.  This means Wolvaardt will say goodbye to the ongoing Pakistan Super League currently taking place to join the Gujarat Giants for the first Women’s Premier League in India.

Wolvaardt managed to score an unbeaten match-winning 53 of 36 balls for Super Women against Amazons in Pakistan. The 23-year-old will now be replaced by South Africa’s Suné Luus for the remaining PSL matches.
