Rain and a gentle westerly greeted the South African Ports Operations Border Ladies Golf Championship at the East London Golf Course with Sunday’s Stokeplay winner Lizelle Muller in contention, but play continued in spite of fog threatening to suspend play.
But Muller refused to allow the gentle drizzle to disturb her concentration, and succeeded in a tight battle against Gauteng compatriot Mercia Pretorius to stay in contention for a second title in three days.
In the second A Division pairing, an all-Border match, Millie Zim easily overcame Shirley Pollock 7/6 to keep the cup in the hands of a home girl.
In spite of the rain, both rounds of play in the semis and final was of an incredibly high standard.
Lizelle Muller prevailed against local lass Millie Zim 4 and 3 to bring a satisfying weekend at the coast to the best possible conclusion.
In the B Division, Pru Rigby compellingly beat Sheila Tioch 7 and 5, after a close 3 and 2 victory over Julie Schroeter in the semi-finals.
