Mamelodi Sundowns have officially been announced champions of the South African Football Association’s National Women’s League (SNWL) after the organisation’s National Executive Committee meeting resolved to conclude the league, with a handful of matches still to be played.

Judging by the Sundowns twitter account, the team is in celebratory mood, and so they should be, after a stellar season, that saw them notch up an impressive 60 points.

The SAFA NEC also confirmed that JVW and MaIndies are both promoted to the SNWL next season.

At Saturday’s meeting, SAFA Medical Officer, Dr Thulani Ngwenya gave a full briefing on the impact of Covid-19 on the restart of play, both for professional and amateur football.
