Despite that the Ladies team losing by nine wickets, the whole event was great fun. The invitation team started with some disappointing news when two of their KZN players who were invited did not pitch in the grounds, and Nelisiwe Ncama failed the fitness test.
The Invitation Team won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a low total of nineteen runs all out, in just nine overs. Aspiring spin sensation talent, the 12-year old Banele who took three wickets against the England boys early this year, he did what he does best on Saturday again, taking four wickets in just three overs for five runs.
The Nkobongo males team chasing 19 runs in twenty overs. Chante Naidoo bowled the first ball, which batsman Delani edged with his bottom hand, but the catch was dropped by Phozisa Nadamase.
On Chante’s third ball of her first over she dismissed captain of the male’s team Lucky Gebane with a royal duck. It was all up to Delani, who played excellent cover drives leading his team to victory, as he scored twelve not out in the 9th over.
This day was not only about a game of cricket, but also about celebrating Women’s Day as Nelisiwe Buthelezi from Kwadukuza Youth Desk gave a short and sweet presentation, directed to Women.
"It is very important that tomorrow you all achieve your dreams and be successful," said Nelisiwe, "But you must start planning today for what you will be doing tomorrow, or will be. In life there are certain things which are enjoyable, but does not help at the end of the day, so Women must choose what is best for them."
She also encouraged the girls and the parents who were there to continue supporting women in sport, as this is one of the things that keeps them alert, because a healthy body goes with a healthy mind.
Closing the event was the performance of Umkhonto Ka Shaka Traditional cultural Zulu dancers, who took the stage and kept everyone entertained.
