2020 gsport Annual List recipient and Olympian, Michaela Whitebooi, clinched bronze at the Senior African Judo Championships in Algeria, which concluded on Sunday, 29 May 2022.
Whitebooi competed in the women’s -48kg category and says that she is taking her achievement as an opportunity to improve on her performances.
“The African Championship 2022 has now come to an end of the individual events. I competed on day one and walked away with a 3rd place (medal).
“It is never anyone’s goal to lose out on the gold medal position, but it is a gift that shows you how you should improve and make changes,” she added.
“Bronze Medal African Championship 2022. One more medal added to my African Championship tally.”
In another Instagram post, Whitebooi thanked Judo South Africa for affording her the opportunity to represent her country.
“I would like to thank the African Judo Union and Algerian Judo Federation for hosting a great Africa Championship.
“Thank you, Judo South Africa, for giving me the opportunity to represent you. I want to give a special shout out to Stuart for his great contribution to make stories that I get to create along my Judo journey.”
As a former African Judo Champion, Whitebooi is drawing on the positives as she continues to build towards participating at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.
“Every lesson learnt had to start with a missed opportunity or mistake made,” Whitebooi concluded.
