Momentum Proteas all-rounder Chloe Tryon has secured an overseas deal with Northern Diamonds, as announced on Thursday, 20 April 2023.
Northern Diamonds are a women’s cricket team that represent the traditional areas of the North East and Yorkshire, one of eight regional hubs in English domestic women’s cricket.
Batting all-rounder Tryon’s deal is set to start immediately and concluded in August. She will join the squad ahead of Saturday’s (April 22) showdown in the opener of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy game against Western Storm at Headingley.
Diamonds Director of Cricket James Carr is excited to have the powerful batter and a left-arm spinner in their fold: “Chloe’s available from the first game on Saturday through to the start of the Hundred.
“So, she’s got a chance to win a T20 trophy and 10 one-dayers in which to cause some chaos and set us up in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for the business end of the year. We’re really pleased with that.
“We will then see what we need post Hundred, who wants to stick around and how we’re travelling.”
Fresh from February’s ICC T20 Women’s World Cup final, where Tryon won a silver medal on home turf, Chloe has played for teams such as Sydney Thunder, Hobart Hurricanes, Barbados Royals, London Spirit and KwaZulu-Natal.
The 29-year-old from Durban has played 186 times for her country across all formats since debuting in 2010. She has a best score of 92 in one-day international cricket and a best of 2-8 in T20.
“We think, in Chloe, we’ve got a player who is in form and who everybody wants,” added Carr.
“She’s had a really good T20 World Cup with South Africa, and we’re delighted to have her. She’s an exciting player who completes a young and talented squad.
“She’s one of the form players in world cricket, that’s why we’ve gone for her. We wanted a bit more excitement and pizazz with the bat, in particular, to go alongside the likes of Bess Heath, Lauren Winfield-Hill and Hollie Armitage.
“Yes, she’s a big name in world cricket, but we feel like we’ve gone for a player in form and not just a name.”
An explosive middle-order batter, she boasts a strike rate of 137.21 in T20I cricket while in her List A career, she has scored four centuries and 22 half-centuries.
Tryon was due to play for Yorkshire Diamonds in the Kia Super League in 2019 before suffering a knee injury.
