Momentum Proteas’ Laura Wolvaardt, Ayabonga Khaka and Shabnim Ismail have been included in the ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year for 2022, as announced on Tuesday, 24 January 2023.

The ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year acknowledges 11 players who have set the highest of standards with the bat, the ball or their all-round exploits in 50-over cricket last year.

Laura Wolvaardt began her year in phenomenal form on home soil hitting 117 runs against West Indies in Johannesburg in February and continued her form in New Zealand, as she hit four half-centuries on the trot at the 50-over World Cup.

The 23-year-old then hit an impressive 89 against Ireland in Dublin in the middle of the year and a further two half-centuries against England away from home the following month.

Meanwhile, Ayabonga Khaka helped herself to 27 wickets for the calendar year from just 18 matches.

Khaka’s best performance came at home against West Indies in Johannesburg, when she collected figures of 5/26.

The 30-year-old picked up where she left off with some impressive showings during the 50-over World Cup in New Zealand.

The pacer finished tied for fourth for the most wickets at the tournament.

Meanwhile, Shabnim Ismail tallied a total of 37 scalps from 17 ODI matches for the entire calendar year.

Ismail picked up superb figures of 5/8 against Ireland in Dublin in the middle of the year, with the 34-year-old showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.
