The Momentum Proteas ICC Women’s T20 World Cup squad were honoured by Cricket South Africa, Momentum and Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis at the team’s official send-off ahead of the tournament at Protea Hotel in Stellenbosch on Tuesday, 7 February 2023.
Hosted by renowned sportcaster, Xoli Zondo, the players were greeted by CSA Executives and media, who were in attendance for the auspicious occasion.
The team’s sponsors, Momentum, who have backed the senior national women’s team since 2013, shared a message of encouragement: “We are all standing in prayer for you, we are all wanting you to do your best because we believe that you are world champs!” revealed Head of Brand Marketing at Momentum, Charlotte Nsubuga-Mukasa.
“There are 15 000 employees across the African continent that are cheering you on, that are going to be buying tickets, that are going to be watching you online and on TV, because we believe as a sponsor, it’s not just enough to give money, but we’ve got to play our part – we’ve got to help reduce the media visibility gap.”
Desiree Ellis, who led Banyana Banyana to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in 2022, shared a heart-warming message to motivate the players.
“We can only win this if we are together. There are some of you who might not get game-time, but you’ve got to be one unit.”
