South Africa’s multi-sport athletes and outdoor enthusiasts are preparing gto converge on Sun City in October, to compete in the adrenalin-pumping Totalsports Challenge, in which entrants will complete a 1km swim, 8km trail run, 10km K1 canoe paddle, 40km road bike race, 10km road run, a rugged 30km mountain bike circuit and finally a 25 minute obstacle course.
Presented by New Balance and Powerade, the Totalsports Challenge event consists of seven stages all taking place on one day in the Sun City complex and surrounding areas.
This year sees the introduction of the Totalsports "Terra Firma" Challenge, where participants, in teams of four, will tackle five of the seven stages of the Totalsports Challenge, excluding the swim and K1 canoeing legs.
According to Race Director Dezroy Poole, the event is truly unique in format and spirit. "The Totalsports Challenge has been a tremendous success in the Cape, and was also well received last year when it made its debut at Sun City.
"This year we have gone one step further with the introduction of the Terra Firma Challenge. We hope that this event will build the confidence of upcoming athletes and that next year they’ll feel assured in their abilities to tackle the exciting Totalsports Challenge.
"The unique format of both races will definitely appeal not only to the ultra-endurance athletes, but also the top athletes in their respective disciplines, and young developing talent," states Poole.
Athletes can save by entering early before Wednesday, 17 October. Early entry fees for the Totalsports Challenge are R900 per 7-member team, R600 per 3-member team, R500 per 2-member team and R300 for individual entrants.
Early entry fees for the Terra Firma Challenge are R1 000 per 4-member team and R200 per 4-member school team. Fees will include entry into Sun City, an event moisture management T-shirt and a goody bag filled with amazing sponsor gifts.
Discount accommodation packages at the Sun City Resort will also be available to entrants and their families, making this a fun-filled weekend away for the whole family.
With over R250 000 in prize money up for grabs, the Totalsports Challenge Series (Sun City in October 2007 and Kleinmond in January 2008) promises to be an exciting test of stamina and expertise with loads of action for spectators.
