Outside of the ongoing NCF Women’s T20i Invitational competition at the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval in Lagos, prominent women national team players signed contracts with the Nigeria Cricket Federation on Friday, 31 March 2023.
Uyi Akpata, the President of the federation, stated at the ceremony that the move was required to stabilize and provide players with some motivation to maintain and even improve their form.
He continued by saying that the agreement, which is applicable to members of the national teams, will motivate them and, more importantly, operate as a springboard for ongoing team building.
The first portion of the contract includes 18 players, and at the start of the second phase on 1 July 2023, 14 more players will be added. It is believed that the athletes’ contracts are renewed after a year.
