Women in sport claimed their podium finish as they won seven category awards at the 2023 KZN Sports Awards, that was held at the Durban International Convention Centre on Saturday 4 November, 2023.
Proteas Women left-arm spin bowler Nonkululeko Mlaba who has made her mark in international cricket and is ranked second on the ICC Women’s T20 Bowlers list, scooped the coveted KZN Sports Woman of the Year award on the night.
It is the second year in a row that “Leftie” as she is so affectionately known was recognised at the KZN Awards. In 2022 she was awarded the MEC Black Blazer accolade for her contribution to cricket in the province.
Earlier this year, Mlaba won the CSA Women’s International T20 Player of the Year and the Women’s Players Player of the Year award.
The talented cricketer plays a key role across all formats of the game for both the national squad and Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies team, and it is her pin-point accuracy, passion, and determination to succeed that makes her stand out and encourages others to follow suit.
Mlaba also walked away with a brand-new vehicle sponsored by Joma Sport on the night.
Rising footballer Nobahle Mdelwa won the Junior Sports Woman of the Year award. Mdelwa attended Edendale Technical School (another winner on the night) and successfully represented the Under-17 National Team, was recently awarded a scholarship to La Liga in Spain.
