Olympic Marathon Selection Criteria

Athletes who wish to be considered for selection onto the final marathon team to the 2008 Olympic Games should participate for their Province in the Nedbank SA Marathon Championships, Athletics South Africa (ASA) announced on Tuesday.

The SA Marathon Championships takes place on Sunday 10 February, 2008, and is incorporated with the Nedbank Durban City Marathon, where ladies hoping to represent the country will have to finish within the qualifying time of two hours, 36 minutes.

ASA will however consider any qualifying time achieved at a recognised marathon in the period 1 September 2007 and 30 April 2008.

Selected athletes will not be permitted to compete in any distance over 21.1km after 30 April 2008, but will be required to compete in a recognised half-marathon race during the period to prove their fitness.
