Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation in association with African Union Sports Council held the Region 5 Women in Sport Conference in Johannesburg from 6-8 October 2022.
With the theme Gender Equity-Championing Sustainable Change, women in sport are looking to continue championing and encouraging young sport leaders to take up leadership roles.
Chairperson of Netball World Cup 2023, Patience Shikwambana spoke about what leaders are doing to advance women’s sport in Africa as she mentioned factors which need to be taken into consideration towards the development and promotion of women in sport.
Shikwambana also spoke about the importance of network and relationship building.
Looking at the importance of networking amongst women:

2.The power in networking is building mutual beneficial relationships that allow you to turn a corner with confidence.
3.To grow as individuals by engaging and networking with other people.

Shikwambana concluded: “Kindly indicate my appreciation as Chairperson of the Netball World Cup 2023 Board to Honourable Minister Mthethwa and Department of Sport, Arts and Culture for the activation of the Netball World Cup 2023 by giving delegates Netball Friday T-shirts to wear and join the country on the mobilisation of the event in the region. Government support on the project is immensely appreciated.”
