Anriëtte Schoeman and Ashleigh Pasio Moolman placed a confident 1-2 for Team Biogen Toyota after starting the weekend’s Engen Dynamic Challenge over 100km with the Vet’s Men 30 and 40-Plus in Port Elizabeth, each a return-to-success story in determination.

Schoeman achieved the weekend’s win hot on the heels of her record-breaking Argus win in Cape Town early in April, and signals her readiness for the tough 10-day tour known as the Tour De’Laude, in France.

Moolman was the new kid on the block who rattled SA Cycling since January with numerous big Classic wins, before heading to New Zealand to race for the international Lotto Cycle Lab team, where she broke her collarbone.

The two showed their classy climbing abilities this weekend when they lead the men over the summit of the Van Stadens Pass, and managed to stay in the leading bunch of 25 riders over the notorious 4km Loerie Climb back to Port Elizabeth.

At this stage it was clear that the sprinters would fight for the final result, and surely ex-Vets World Champ, Wayne Pheiffer, lead the sprint to the finish, followed closely by our ladies.

Pheiffer took first place with Schoeman fifth amongst the men as the first lady home, and Ashleigh Pasio Moolman followed closely in seventh overall, the second woman home ahead of Allison Hertel completing the podium.

This race was Schoeman’s finial preparation for the Tour De’Laude, and she will be leaving for France on Saturday to race for the Lotto Cycle Lab international team.

Not to be outdone, Pasio Moolman will be leaving for Europe in June to compete in the Women’s Giro in Italy.
