Phiri Accident Robs SA- SASCOC

On behalf of SASCOC Board Members and Management, Federations and in particular Netball  South Africa we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the Phiri  family and relatives for the untimely death of their daughter, a national  heroine Yvonne Phiri.

Yvonne has proved to be a National Asset and a world class sports star, as  she has served the under 21 National team during the 2003 COSANA Games, Zone 6 Games, event in Fort Lauderdale in USA, and was in the South African team that toured Fiji and New Zealand from the 21st July to the 2nd August 2006.

She was an astute athlete who was destined for greater heights, this, above all her achievements at such a tender age. The National Team will definitely miss her ever fresh impetus in the forth coming World Championship in July 2007.

As the sport fraternity and the whole nation mourns Yvonne’s death, the major challenge ahead of us is to assume responsibility and provide young people with an avenue to adopt healthy lifestyles, where physical fitness can contribute to mental alertness , that will give our young people the opportunity to make choices in life as she did.

To her fellow national team members, continue placing South Africa on the map, you have her spirit and our full support.

To the family, akwehlanga lungehlanga. Duduzekani.

May her soul rest in peace.
