Reigning 70km women’s champion Theresa Ralph will be aiming for a successful title defence on Saturday, 26 May 2012, when she takes on the infamous ProNutro Magalies Monster Mountain Bike Classic at the ATKV Buffelspoort Golf Course (North West Province).
Forming part of the Magaliesberg Citrus Festival, riders can choose between a 70km, 40km and 20km route.
According to Ralph although she enjoyed the 2011 route the most, the ProNutro Magalies Monster is always tough. “The Monster (70km) definitely isn’t for casual riders as you need to train for marathon distances.
“Training would need to include at least three months of doing a similar distance during weekend training rides, plus at least three rides in the week to maintain a good fitness level,” says Ralph.
“My favourite part of the Monster is the descent down the other side of Breedts Neck. Winning is always a wonderful and rewarding experience no matter what you are doing, but to win the Monster is a cherry on top due to the fact that it is such a tough race,” says Ralph who plans on attending the Marathon World Championship in France in October this year.
All 2012 ProNutro Magalies Monster participants can look forward to stocking up on energy at the much loved Bokomo Breakfast Zone which will open at 06:00am. After giving their all on route, mountain bikers can regain their strength in the famous Rehidrat Sport Recovery Zone.
Family and friends will be able to support the riders at various vantage points along the route.
