Record Number of Votes Cast for 2024 Momentum gsport Awards Finalists as Excitement Builds

Voting for the 2024 Momentum gsport Awards has officially closed, marking the end of an exhilarating few weeks where the best in women’s sport were being recognised for their outstanding contributions.

Over 35,000 votes were received, demonstrating an unprecedented level of public engagement. The votes are now being tallied, and the winners will be announced at the prestigious awards ceremony on Thursday, 12 September 2024, in Johannesburg.

The excitement kicked off with gsport’s 18th birthday celebration, featuring its first-ever House Party to launch Women’s Month. The energetic start led to a significant increase in public nominations compared to 2023, culminating in a record number of votes in the Voting Hall.

This year’s campaign continued to break new ground with a pioneering broadcast on SABC, where the finalists were announced. During this landmark event, gsport founder Kass Naidoo shared the essence of #gsport19 and the #PowerOfRecognition campaign, highlighting the importance of celebrating achievements in women’s sport.

Reflecting on the incredible public support, Kass Naidoo said, “The overwhelming response from the public, with over 35,000 votes cast, is a strong indication of the growing recognition and support for women’s sport.”

“It’s truly inspiring to see such enthusiasm and engagement from fans who are passionate about elevating the achievements of our sportswomen.”
